Mornings in Benaras are magical. It is a divine experience to walk down the ghats early morning. The weather can get quite cold in monsoon and winter seasons. Our latest trip to Benaras was in February 2020 over the long weekend of Maha Shivaratri.
As with all the other old cities in India, Benaras has some amazing street food options. When you step out on a cold morning, you would love to have some hot tea to keep you warm. The Varanasi Toast is a locally sourced bread toasted over a coal oven and is generously spread with white butter. Goes quite well with the lemon black tea.
Most other hot breakfast places open a bit late around 8:30~09:00 AM and once you are back after a morning walk on the Ghats, you are sure to have a big appetite to grab some more breakfast. The lanes around Dashashwamedh have small shops that start making Kachori Subzi, Samosa and Jalebi. The fresh hot milk goes so well with the Jalebi!
If you have been lazy and do not want to step out early morning, you can also choose to have some Poori Subzi with a strong ginger lemon tea at your hotel.
The flavours of Benaras are indeed amazing!
